The Zalaegerszeg Museums Directorate defines itself as a community museum, working with and for the local community. Since 2016, one of the key pillars of our community museum approach has been our Community Archaeology Programme.

Community Archaeology at the Göcseji Museum
Since 2016, we have been working together with volunteers to research, document, preserve, interpret, and present the archaeological heritage of Zala County. Our Community Archaeology Programme operates on a project basis, meaning that fieldwork and museum-based activities take place at different locations and times under the guidance of various archaeological specialists.
Who can join our Community Archaeology Programme?
Anyone who is at least 18 years old, legally competent, has no criminal record, and accepts our Community Archaeology Code of Ethics is welcome to apply.

After your initial enquiry, we will invite you to a personal meeting where we introduce our Community Archaeology Programme, explain its guiding principles, and learn more about you and your interests.
Following this meeting, if we find that our goals and values align, you will be welcome to join our volunteer community and take part in one of our Community Archaeology projects.
