Project Goal
The restoration of the Budafa and Csöde bell towers in the Göcsej Open-Air Museum to preserve the cultural heritage of Göcsej in Zala County. The project aims to showcase the values of 19th-20th century folk architecture and ensure the long-term preservation of the bell towers.

- Budafa Bell Tower: A key element of the sacral architecture of Göcsej villages, serving both communal and religious functions.
- Csöde Bell Tower: A simpler yet characteristic type that represents an earlier phase of bell tower development.
Restoration Works
Budafa Bell Tower:
- Mechanical cleaning and chemical treatment of the oak structure (insecticide and fungicide).
- Surface treatment with Chinese wood oil.
- Partial replacement and treatment of the skirt boarding with Adolit BQ 20 solution, followed by Swedish oil.
- Complete replacement of shingles and treatment of the new surface with tar oil.
Csöde Bell Tower:
- Mechanical cleaning and chemical treatment of the oak structure (insecticide and fungicide).
- Surface treatment with Chinese wood oil.
- Partial replacement and treatment of the skirt boarding with Adolit BQ 20 solution, followed by Swedish oil.
- Complete replacement of boarding and treatment of the new surface with tar oil.
Project Results
- The restored bell towers enhance the appeal of the Göcsej Open-Air Museum, strengthening the identity and pride of the local community.
- The restoration ensures the long-term survival of the bell towers and their continued role in the museum’s activities.
