Several of the traditional houses reconstructed in the Göcsej Village Museum feature richly decorated gables characteristic of the region. In some cases, however, only the ornamental gables could be preserved, while the buildings themselves were beyond saving.
These beautifully crafted gables were rescued and preserved, allowing visitors to admire this unique collection today.
Preserved House Gables
The house gables displayed beside the Hencz Water Mill bear witness to the remarkable craftsmanship of the carpenter-painters who created them and to the rich decorative motifs they employed. Although the original thatched houses could not be saved, their most striking features – the carved and painted gables – were successfully preserved for future generations.
