Göcseji Museum will once again take part in the Örvényesvölgy Festival. The Pauline Monastery Memorial Site in Zalacsány offers a unique opportunity for visitors to discover archaeology, the heritage of the Pauline Order, and the rich history of Zala County.
On Friday, 26 June 2026, between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, and on Saturday, 27 June 2026, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, archaeologists from the Göcseji Museum and the Balatoni Museum will welcome visitors to the archaeological open day entitled “Step into the Excavation – Where the Past Comes to Light”. Participants will gain first-hand insight into the ongoing excavation of the Pauline monastery in Zalacsány, learn about the latest archaeological discoveries, and hear about the most recent research results directly from the experts.
On Saturday, staff members of the Göcseji Museum will also participate in two public discussions at the Gasztro Kult&Art Liget Small Stage. At 12:30 PM, the round-table discussion “The Memory of a Landscape – A Journey Through Time in Zala” will feature archaeologist and senior museologist Lívia Simmer and Bálint Havasi, archaeologist and Director General of the Directorate of Zalaegerszeg Museums. At 1:20 PM, the discussion “Our Shared Heritage – Pauline History, Museums and Community” will explore the relationship between Pauline heritage, the role of museums, and community-based heritage preservation.
Families and young visitors are invited on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to join “Young Archaeologists’ Challenge”. This interactive programme includes an archaeological competition with multiple activity stations, a hands-on archaeology playground, simulated excavations in a sandpit, and craft workshops, offering children a fun introduction to the world of archaeology.
