On a gloomy afternoon in mid-December, the Göcseji Museum‘s lecture hall was filled to capacity with enthusiastic visitors. As part of the museum’s Advent program series, Szabó Balázs, president of the Zalai Teker(g)ők Cycling, Sports, and Touring Association, delivered a captivating presentation about their Medjugorje pilgrimage by bicycle, richly illustrated with photos and videos.
The more than 700 km cycling pilgrimage passed through Hungary, Croatia, and Bosnia, with participants averaging 70-80 km per day. The small team was supported by Szabó Balázs’s family, who followed them by car.
Accommodation was found in tents, parishes, and Franciscan monasteries, with kind and hospitable people lending a helping hand along the way. Overcoming language barriers, new friendships were formed, making the journey both a physical and spiritual experience. Medjugorje’s spiritual and soulful atmosphere enchanted everyone. Reaching their destination brought not only physical but also spiritual renewal, with the pure spirituality, silence, and peace becoming a defining experience.
Held in the spirit of Advent, the program had a truly warm and family-like atmosphere. The nearly two-hour presentation captivated the audience’s attention throughout, thanks to Szabó Balázs’s light-hearted presentation style and sincere, heartfelt thoughts.
He also took care of hosting the attendees: the program was made even more memorable with cakes, drinks, and small handmade angel figurines as gifts.
This event, imbued with the spirit of community, giving, and spiritual renewal, perfectly aligned with the essence of the Advent season and left a deep impression on everyone present.
