InnoGuide4CHT – Implementation (Action) Guidelines

The aim of our InnoGuide4CHT project is to support the renewal of cultural heritage sites in Hungary and Austria – such as museums and open-air museums – with a special focus on enhancing the visitor experience, introducing digital technologies, and promoting accessibility and inclusion.

During the implementation phase, the project team of ZMI worked closely with national and international partners to carry out comprehensive research and analysis on the state of digitalisation in the cultural heritage tourism sector.

This work involved:

  • assessing the current state of the participating museums,
  • surveying visitors and staff to identify development needs,
  • and exploring opportunities for implementing interactive, digital, and inclusive solutions.

As a result of this work, a bilingual (Hungarian–German) document titled “Implementation Guidelines” has been developed.

The publication consists of two main parts:

  1. A short-term action plan, which outlines concrete, practical steps for each partner museum – such as app development, AR/VR experiences, audio guide systems, digital learning materials, and the introduction of visitor management systems.
  2. A long-term strategy, which provides recommendations for scaling up the pilot developments, ensuring sustainable digital operations, building regional partnerships, and generating income. It also identifies additional potential solutions that could not be realised within the current project, but may be pursued in the future.

The overall goal of the document is to provide a useful guide, idea bank, or strategic framework not only for the project partners, but also for other institutions working in the field of cultural heritage tourism.

In the upcoming project implementation phase, the pilot actions outlined in the document will be put into practice:

  • introduction of digital tools and interactive solutions in museums,
  • testing of user-friendly and accessible visitor experiences,
  • training and knowledge exchange for museum professionals.

The long-term vision of the project is to develop a flexible, modern and inclusive visitor management system that can be adapted by institutions in other regions as well – offering meaningful cultural experiences to all visitors, regardless of age, interest or physical ability.
